How Knowledge works
The five sources your assistant answers from, and which one wins.
What the Knowledge tab is
The Knowledge tab is everything your assistant knows about your business that isn't a catalog item — why it exists, when you're open, what you're asked all the time, and any documents you've given it.
It's organised as five sections down the left. Each shows a count, so you can see at a glance where you've given it plenty and where you've given it nothing.
The five sections
- Assistant purpose — what it's for, what it must never do, and how it sounds. See Assistant purpose and voice.
- Business basics — hours, contact details, locations, policies. See Business basics.
- FAQs — the questions you answer over and over. See FAQs.
- Menu & catalog — read-only here. It's a summary of what's in your Catalog tab, shown so you can see it's being used.
- Documents — files you've uploaded. See Documents.
Which source wins
When two sources disagree — your FAQ says you close at 5 but Business basics says 6 — the assistant doesn't guess. There's a fixed order of precedence:
- Business basics and your catalog — these outrank everything
- FAQs
- Documents
This is why prices and hours belong in the catalog and in Business basics rather than written into a document — a stale figure in an uploaded PDF loses to the live one, which is what you want.
The order of the sections in the sidebar has nothing to do with this. It follows how you set an assistant up, not which source is trusted more.
💡 Pro tip
The fastest way to find gaps is to use it. Open your own page, ask the five questions customers actually ask, and add whatever it fumbles. Ten minutes of that beats an hour of filling in fields speculatively.
